Social Media and others like Gaming

Social Media and others like Gaming

Apps around the world give kids access to communicate and express their creativity. However this can be a problem though because this is where cyberbullying occurs. Sadly to say there are many free apps that allow people to post and chat anonymously. Parents might not be aware what apps there child is using and what is happening on their phone. Kids are good at hiding things especially if they are being cyberbullied. There are many apps out there that make it easier for kids so they have access to adult or harmful contact. Settings within privacy make it more vulnerable for kids to be cyberbullied or stalked.

Its important to know exactly what your kids are doing online. A child could be involved in cyberbullying within several ways. When it comes to cyberbullying a child may witness, be bullied, or bully others. Sometimes parents are not aware of what there child is doing online and what apps they might be using. The more digital the child uses the more chances of them being exposed to being bullied or bullying themselves.

Warning Signs of being or cyberbullying

  • You notice your child using devices a lot more or even a lot less then usual.
  • The child will have emotional responses to there devices this can include anger, laughter, and sadness.
  • The child will hide their devices from people and not like to talk about what they are doing on their device.
  • They create new accounts or delete social media.
  • They might avoid social settings
  • The child will become depressed and not want to do anything like they used to. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11655825

Cyberbullying is a form of bullying even if people think its not. Because cyberbullying
happens online it needs to be approached differently.

  • Talk: Let your child know you are there ask them questions on what might be going on.
  • Notice: Its important to pay attention to your child's mood is it changing. Notice if this is happening around there devices.

Verbal Bullying

Verbal Bullying

This kind of bullying involves name calling and bullies use mean and cruel statements to gain power and control over the victim. Verbal bullies will purposely insult someone to demean and hurt that other person. When verbal bullies insult someone they look for someone who is acting or behaving a certain way, and or even just based on what they might look like. This bullying mostly happens when adults are not around to stop it.

Examples of Verbal Bullying
